England Basketball Officiating Award Schemes


Courses and Education
Courses for both refereeing and Table Officiating are organised through Basketball Development Groups, Leagues and clubs. Each course that is run must be approved through England Basketball and the first point of contact is the Yorkshire Regional Management Committee, the officers responsible are:

Both these officers will also be directly responsible for co-ordinating opportunities for all officials continuous Professional Development within the region.

England Basketball Refereeing Award Scheme
 
Competent qualified referees are an important requirement for all basketball games. These referees are trained and assessed through courses and examinations conducted at area and national level.
Level 1 (Apprentice Referee)    
The Level 1 award is an introduction to basketball refereeing giving an insight to the general positioning, violations and fouls that need to be administered when refereeing a basketball game. A Level 1 referee is qualified to officiate at school matches, central venue and local league (youth leagues) and recreational level. Having gained this award, an experienced Level 1 referee may be appointed up to U15 youth national league competitions under the auspices of a Regional Management Committee or Area Association.
       
Level 2      
The Level 2 award is designed for candidates who have some experience refereeing a game of basketball. A Level 2 referee is qualified to officiate at more advanced local league and central venue league competitions and up to U16 National League competitions. Having gained this award, an experienced Level 2 referee may be appointed up to U18 National League competitions, senior local league and Founders Cup competition under the auspices of a Regional Management Committee or Area Association.
       
Level 3      
Qualified to officiate at Division 3 Men and Divison 2 Women senior EBL. Having gained this award, experienced Level 2 referees may be appointed up to Division 1/2 Men's and Division 1 Women senior national league competitions under the auspices of England Basketball and recommended by the Regional Management Committee or Area Association.
       
Level 4      
Qualified to officiate at all matches of Senior National League level.
       
Level 5 (International - FIBA)    
Qualified to officiate in any match. This grade is obtained by Level 4 referees who have been recommended by England Basketball, and successful when examined by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA)
       
England Basketball Awards for Table Officials
 
The awards for Table Officials encourage the training and qualification of persons to act as table officials at basketball games.
       
Level 1 (Apprentice)
Qualified to officiate at school and recreational games. Apprentice Table Officials may be appointed to Under-16 and Under-18 competitions under the auspices of a Regional Management Committee or Area Association, at the discretion of the Regional Management Committee.
       
Level 2      
This is the basic practical award and is intended for table officials operating in Regional and local senior leagues and schools basketball.
       
Level 3      
This is the advanced Table Officials Award of England Basketball, and the candidate is expected to attain a very high level of practical performance and theoretical knowledge.
Appointment of Table Officials for National Competitions and other European Events are made from persons holding this ward.
