OFFICIAL INVITATION 7th “FLANDERS BASKETBALL TROPHY 2009”
Ghent, Belgium – August 22nd and 23rd 2009

It’s still a long way to go ... but next summer the 7th FLANDERS BASKETBALL TROPHY will be held on August 22nd and 23rd, 2009 in the beautiful city of GHENT in Belgium.
This tournament has become the biggest international basketball-event in Belgium and in Europe. Next August, we expect 140 to 150 teams from more than 25 countries world-wide.

The F.B.T. is open for all age-groupes, but also for men and women and for mens veterans also !!
There are 11 different groupes :
boys U14 – born between 1.1.1996 and 31.12.1997
boys U16 – born between 1.1.1994 and 31.12.1995
boys U18 – born between 1.1.1992 and 31.12.1993 (high level)
boys U18 – born between 1.1.1992 and 31.12.1993 (lower level)
boys U21 – born between 1.1.1989 and 31.12.1991
girls U14 – born between 1.1.1996 and 31.12.1997
girls U16 – born between 1.1.1994 and 31.12.1995
girls U19 – born between 1.1.1991 and 31.12.1993
mens seniors : + 18 years
women seniors : + 18 years
mens veterans : + 35 years with a maximum of 2 players between 30 and 35 years

What is the reason of the success of the FLANDERS BASKETBALL TROPHY :
all games will be played in excellent indoor venues
all games will be refereed with 2 referees
all teams will be playing 5 games of 4 x 8 minutes each WITH stop-clock
all games will have 3 table-officials
more than 280 volunteers are welcoming more than 2000 players and referees
the host-town of GHENT is one of the most beautiful cities in Belgium and Europe !!

Our organization takes care also for basketballteams who want to stay a longer period in Ghent or Belgium. We can make additional programms with extra friendly games, touristic visits etc.
Next year, we will host 140 to 150 referees from more than 25 countries. Actually, more than 90 referees of 18 countries have confirmed their participation already !!

INTERNATIONAL REFEREES

Our organization pays the stay of the hotel (from Friday evening until Sunday evening or Monday morning) including all meals.

URGENT CALL TO HELP DEVELOP BRADFORD'S SPORTING TALENT
Bradford's only National League Junior Basketball club – the Bradford Dragons – is urgently looking for more basketball coaches to continue to develop its young talent.

Bradford has not been an area with a long basketball tradition, but new players are quickly being drawn to the game from Bradford's diverse communities. In a recent audit, players from 45 nationalities and ethnic groups had been involved with the Club during the 2006/7 season, reflecting basketball's popularity as a world game, second only to football in the number of national associations affiliated to an international body.

Stuart Culliford, founder of the Bradford Dragons Basketball Club said: "Basketball is a great sport to help young people learn to work as a team, to work hard and to compete, and, crucially, to give them a sense of achievement. Coaches are essential to make this happen. But it is not just knowledge of the game that they bring. Coaches are often older players that have busy lives, careers and families and this gives them a chance to put something back into the sport that they enjoyed for many years and probably still love. They can pass on how they learned the game and teach these young enthusiastic basketballers the proper fundamentals and the right attitude to compete."

Coaches can get their travel expenses, out of pocket expenses, English Basketball registration fees, police checks and the cost of EB Coaching courses to at least Coach level 2 standard paid, but need to volunteer their own time in return. Dragons need enthusiastic, reliable and committed Coaches to share the coaching role across all teams.

Further information:
We are particularly looking for coaches for our Dragons U16 boys team for the 2008/9 season (commencing in September 2008).
Current coaches include:
Chris Mellor, Head Coach – a Bradfordian and former England U23 player, Assistant Coach Mike Thompson – also runs Burnley Basketball Club. Arthur Wainwright, Dragons U18 junior men Coach – from the North East and a former England U19 player
Tamas Okros, Dragons U13 & U14 Coach – a Hungarian and former pro-player in Hungary with a degree in basketball coaching.

Joining Dragons for 2008/9 will be Martina Greenwood who will coach the new Dragons U18 Girl's team which is entering the EBL for the first time. Martina plays rugby and plays basketball for Kirklees Ladies. Also joining is Nick Bull from Thirsk who will coach the new Dragons U13 girls team in the new Yorkshire U13 girls league.

Bradford Dragons Basketball Club was formed in summer 2001 and now has the biggest EB club membership in Yorkshire with around 130 children and young people involved as players. It is an EB 3 star club with Clubmark. In the 2007/8 season Dragons had 6 teams in competition and 4 teams in development and a Dragons team, Dragons 1 senior men, made the play offs for the first time. The Club aims to create quality, accessible and affordable basketball development and competitive opportunities for young people across all the West Yorkshire’s diverse communities.

BRADFORD DRAGONS BASKETBALL CLUB HOLD SENIOR MEN TRY OUTS FOR THE ENGLISH BASKETBALL LEAGUE [EBL] DIVISION 3 SQUAD FOR 2008/9

Bradford Dragons BC are inviting quality basketball players who wish to play for Dragons in the EBL division 3 next season to attend the try outs session as attached.

The try outs sessions will be held every Tuesday evening [starting 3/6/08, then 10/6/08, 17/6/08 and 24/6/08] in June from 8.30 to 10pm at Grange Interlink Community Centre, Summerville Road, Bradford BD7 1PX [near Bradford University]. Sessions cost £2.50p each.

Stuart Culliford, Dragons chairperson said, ´Last season was our best ever for our senior men´s team and we made the play offs for the first time as a new EBL club. We are looking to build on that success by recruiting the best basketball players available in Yorkshire to strengthen our squad and improve again in the 2008/9 season. We want to see any player who thinks they have what it takes to play for Dragons in the EBL senior men’s league. Players need to make at least one try out session in June to be considered for selection´
