TABLE OFFICIATING NEWS NATIONAL OFFICIATING CONFERENCE 2006
**Table Officials' uniform changes back to red polo shirts and sweatshirts this season **
No major rule changes to worry about this season!
Level 3 Table Officials need to note that if they use a FIBA scoresheet they now need to use minutes to record time-outs (not just crosses as before) the same as on EB scoresheets.
ABBTO??
Association of British Basketball Table Officials
This new Association, specifically for Table Officials has been up and running for a full season now.
It was formed at Conference in September last year at the request of Alan Richardson, England Basketball's Convenor of Officiating, who felt we needed our own voice since EABO folded several seasons ago.
The aims of ABBTO are:
To further the development of Basketball
To promote Table Officials' education and training
To encourage the sharing of knowledge through publications, conferences, courses and research
To offer a range of expert advice and support such as befits a professional association
ABBTO provides advice and recommendations relating to the development of Table Officials and their training, assessment and appointment procedures to EB.
Currently all qualified and nationally licensed Table Officials are automatically members of ABBTO, no extra membership fee is required. At the moment ABBTO is being funded by donations from RMCs and monies raised from tutor training courses.

What have we done this year?
Revised Table Official qualifications:
There are still 4 Levels:
Level 1 Apprentice
Level 2
Level 3
Level 4 Senior
There are new exams for Levels 1 and 2
Level 2 practicals have been reduced from 3 timing and 3 scoring to 2 timing and 2 scoring within the year of taking the appropriate course.
The Level 3 course has changed radically; less emphasis on what you should know as an experienced Level 2 and more on application of the rules and situations plus the shot clock and FIBA scoresheet.
Level 4 by application to and endorsement by Regional Reps. Tutoring regularly to Level 3 and being capable of all duties at National and International level.
Tutor training has been revised. There are now 2 levels, which require attendance of a course, observation of current tutors and co-tutoring of courses.
ABBTO have now been given responsibility for appointments to all prestigious games, including Cup, Trophy and Plate finals and Internationals. Assessment observations will be carried out at all such events and at other times throughout the season. In this way valuable feedback is gained by officials, and uniformity in mechanics maintains standards throughout Britain.
