This year, the 7th "FLANDERS BASKETBALL TROPHY" will be held on August 22nd and 23rd, 2009 in Ghent, Belgium.
In less than 2 months, the 7th "Flanders Basketball Trophy" will be held in Ghent, Belgium (August 22nd and 23rd, 2009). Actually, 110 teams from 20 countries have entered the biggest basketball-event in our country already !!
For the first time since the start in 2003, teams from Portugal, Montenegro, Algeria and ... Venezuela will participate the "Flanders Basketball Trophy" and - once again - more than 110 referees from 25 countries (including Russia, the USA, Canada and many other European countries) will be present in Ghent.
In all age-groupes, we still have some open places, but we will close the entries on JULY 15th, 2009.
If you want to join one of the best pre-season tournaments in Europe (all indoor-sportscentres, 5 games of 4x8 minutes, no running-clock, always two referees on court, always three table-officials and ... a great international atmosphere with 30 countries represented !!) please feel free to enter the "Flanders Basketball Trophy" in Ghent.

BRADFORD DRAGONS BASKETBALL CLUB SENIOR MEN TRY OUT SESSIONS
Have you got what it takes to play national league basketball? Do you want to take your game to the next level?
Any basketball players wishing to play senior men’s national league basketball for Bradford Dragons BC are invited to attend one of the following special try out sessions being held at Bradford College’s Trinity Green Sports Hall, Trinity Road, Bradford BD5 0JE on the following days from 8 to 9.30pm
Thursday 2nd July, Tuesday 7th July, Thursday 9th July
Coaches Chris Mellor and Mike Thompson will select a squad of players to train though the summer to be ready for the new season in September 2009. Dragons train twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 to 10pm and play home games in the EBL division 3 [north] on Saturdays 6.15pm all at Bradford Colleges new double court sports hall. Additional weekend pre season training sessions may also be arranged.

OPEN RUN BASKETBALL GAME SESSIONS FOR UNDER 18 AND OVER 18 PLAYERS
Bradford Dragons Basketball Club are pleased to invite all basketball players to attend the open run basketball game sessions on Thursday nights at the Dragon’s lair in the new Bradford College Trinity Green Sports Hall, Trinity Road, Bradford BD5 0JE [diagonally opposite McMillan College]. Players 15 to 18 years old play at 6.30 to 8pm and players over 18 play 8 to 9.30pm. Sessions cost £3, visit www.bradforddragons.co.uk for map and directions. The sessions are planned to run through to mid July and will be a great way for ballers to stay in shape for the season ahead.

URGENT CALL TO HELP DEVELOP BRADFORD'S SPORTING TALENT
Bradford's only National League Junior Basketball club – the Bradford Dragons – is urgently looking for more basketball coaches to continue to develop its young talent.
Bradford has not been an area with a long basketball tradition, but new players are quickly being drawn to the game from Bradford's diverse communities. In a recent audit, players from 45 nationalities and ethnic groups had been involved with the Club during the 2006/7 season, reflecting basketball's popularity as a world game, second only to football in the number of national associations affiliated to an international body.
Stuart Culliford, founder of the Bradford Dragons Basketball Club said: "Basketball is a great sport to help young people learn to work as a team, to work hard and to compete, and, crucially, to give them a sense of achievement. Coaches are essential to make this happen. But it is not just knowledge of the game that they bring. Coaches are often older players that have busy lives, careers and families and this gives them a chance to put something back into the sport that they enjoyed for many years and probably still love. They can pass on how they learned the game and teach these young enthusiastic basketballers the proper fundamentals and the right attitude to compete."
Coaches can get their travel expenses, out of pocket expenses, English Basketball registration fees, police checks and the cost of EB Coaching courses to at least Coach level 2 standard paid, but need to volunteer their own time in return. Dragons need enthusiastic, reliable and committed Coaches to share the coaching role across all teams.

We are particularly looking for coaches for our Dragons U16 boys team for the 2008/9 season (commencing in September 2008).
Current coaches include:
Chris Mellor, Head Coach – a Bradfordian and former England U23 player, Assistant Coach Mike Thompson – also runs Burnley Basketball Club.
Arthur Wainwright, Dragons U18 junior men Coach – from the North East and a former England U19 player
Tamas Okros, Dragons U13 & U14 Coach – a Hungarian and former pro-player in Hungary with a degree in basketball coaching.
Joining Dragons for 2008/9 will be Martina Greenwood who will coach the new Dragons U18 Girl's team which is entering the EBL for the first time. Martina plays rugby and plays basketball for Kirklees Ladies. Also joining is Nick Bull from Thirsk who will coach the new Dragons U13 girls team in the new Yorkshire U13 girls league.

Bradford Dragons Basketball Club was formed in summer 2001 and now has the biggest EB club membership in Yorkshire with around 130 children and young people involved as players. It is an EB 3 star club with Clubmark. In the 2007/8 season Dragons had 6 teams in competition and 4 teams in development and a Dragons team, Dragons 1 senior men, made the play offs for the first time. The Club aims to create quality, accessible and affordable basketball development and competitive opportunities for young people across all the West Yorkshire’s diverse communities.
